Formerly a part of Hessle Road Network, The Indigo Moon Studio Theatre is a super mini - theatre space which some have likened to the old "Bush Theatre" in London. It has raked seating and a capacity for 40 adults or 60 children. Though small, it makes for a magical and cosy theatrical atmosphere... and it just takes one coach load to fill it :)
Indigo Moon Theatre created this space in Autumn 2012, when they became part of a growing collective of artists at Scrapstore Studios - part of The Scrapstore (Hull Play Resource Centre). This is the company's base for production work, but also a space where, for the first time, they can invite audiences in, whether it be for the public or for private parties or school groups. Since July 2015 we have also expanded into the neighbouring space to create a making / workshop / backstage area.
The completed theatre space was launched in December 2012 with a ten day run of Aladdin, followed by a six day run of Alice & the White Rabbit during the Easter Holidays 2013. Since then, Indigo Moon's Saturday Afternoon Puppet Club was piloted in April & May 2013, which is hoped to continue at a later date, and sometimes workshops are held here for Scrapstore, for events such as their Children's Summer Festivals or the Christmas Fayre.
The Indigo Moon Studio Theatre has also played host to our colleagues Open Umbrella Theatre who performed their first play there, "Widow's Walk", in July/August 2013 - and "Blanchard's Balloon" in December 2014.
Christmas 2013 saw a run of Jungle Book, and from Autumn 2014 - Spring 2015 we ran our "Light, Shadows and Puppetry Course" for adults age 45+ living in Hull (An Arts in Health & Wellbeing project for Hull City Council), when we made new friends, who we hope will stay in touch and continue to work with us.
Indigo Moon's Christmas show run in 2014 was "The Lost Forest". Indigo Moon hope that the space will continue to be a lively and welcoming place for many inspiring experiences, new creations and collaborations to happen, both for the next generation of creative young people and for older people. It is an ideal size for coach parties and any of the productions in repertoire, with or without workshops, can be specially provided for visiting groups.
For details of Indigo Moon Theatre's forthcoming public performances, either in the studio or elsewhere, please see the Show Dates page.
